In mid-February 2026, US broadband platform vendor Calix launched "Calix One" — a unified, AI-native platform folding its appliances, cloud software, AI agents and managed services into a single system, built in partnership with Google Cloud. What stands out isn't the launch itself; vendors launch platforms constantly. It's the adoption number Calix reported on day one: roughly a third of its customer base was already running on it, with the rest of its more than 1,600 service-provider customers expected to complete the transition by the end of March 2026. That's not a pilot. That's a vendor moving its whole install base onto an agentic-AI foundation in about six weeks.

This has been building for a while

Calix framed the launch as the payoff of roughly $2 billion invested in its platform over 15 years, with more than $100 million of that specifically redirected toward agentic AI capability since late 2023. The company says early adopters of the new platform have posted Net Promoter Scores in the 90s, higher average revenue per subscriber, and meaningful reductions in operating expense — figures Calix attributes to specific customers rather than the industry at large, but which line up with a broader pattern showing up across broadband operators this past year.

That pattern shows in independent survey data too. A Google Cloud-backed survey of broadband executives found more than half were already using some form of agentic AI by June 2025, with the heaviest use in cybersecurity, technical support, customer service, product innovation, and network or equipment configuration. A separate Protiviti survey around the same time found about a quarter of organizations had agentic AI integrated into core operations, with another quarter planning to get there within six months. BT's chief technology and information officer, Howard Watson, has summed up the category more bluntly than most vendors dare to: "AI that does stuff."

Not just chatbots — ticket triage, churn signals, outage correlation

The interesting part isn't the AI-assistant layer smaller providers have already gotten used to. It's the operational work agentic tools are starting to take on: automatically triaging and summarizing support tickets, correlating outage data to know which customers to notify before they call in, and flagging churn risk from usage and support patterns before a subscriber cancels. Industry analysts covering the space, including Omdia, have been careful to note this isn't a wholesale replacement for network engineers — their guidance is to keep a human in the loop for anything beyond low-risk, well-bounded tasks. But the direction of travel is clear: the routine, repetitive parts of running a broadband business are the first to go agentic.

What this actually means if you don't have a Google Cloud budget

Most ISPs reading this aren't going to license a platform built on hyperscaler infrastructure, and that's fine — the underlying lesson doesn't require it. What Calix's customers, and the wider survey data, keep pointing to is the same short list of operational pain points: slow manual ticket handling, delayed outage response, and billing or collections processes that depend on someone remembering to act. Those are exactly the problems that automation solves whether or not "AI" is doing the deciding.
